Over 150,000 premises connected under National Broadband Plan
Over 150,000 premises across the country have now been connected to high-speed fibre broadband under the National Broadband Plan (NBP).
It takes the number of homes, farms, and businesses that can order the high-speed internet connection to more than 420,000, which surpasses the 2025 end-of-year target.
National Broadband Ireland (NBI), the company delivering the NBP, said it expects to reach 440,000 premises by the end of the year.
The company said in many areas where the network has been live for longer, “take-up already surpasses 60%, reflecting strong national appetite for world-class fibre connectivity”.
NBI also said it is “firmly on track to complete delivery of the main infrastructure rollout by the end of 2026”.
As part of the plan, high-speed fibre broadband is due to be made available to 564,000 premises through the NBI network.
Under the NBP, people living and working in the rollout area can connect to high-speed fibre broadband through a choice of 50 different broadband providers actively selling on the network.
The Minister for Communications said the milestones “show that our investment is making a tangible difference, giving communities the connectivity they need to learn, work, and grow”.
Patrick O’Donovan said the progress being made “builds momentum and is a clear demonstration of the Government’s long-term commitment to providing world-class connectivity to every part of the country”.
“This is more than infrastructure, it’s an investment in Ireland’s future, growth, and equality of opportunity and will have a real and lasting impact across society,” he added.
The Chief Executive of National Broadband Ireland said take-up of the high-speed fibre broadband “has been exceptional and continues to grow as the benefits of fibre connectivity become better understood”.
TJ Malone said the company’s “focus now is finishing the main infrastructure deployment by the end of next year, as well as connecting more and more people to this life changing network”.
“By the end of 2026, rural Ireland will have access to world-class digital connectivity, which will serve their needs for decades to come,” he added.
Details of the homes, farms and businesses included in the rollout, and the broadband providers offering services in a particular area, can be found by entering Eircodes on the NBI’s website.
